a gems hunter

“The Gem That Stands Out”

A dream that tease my thoughts often.

I guess those reading this my introduction might think “I have enough gems to work for the rest of my life with”, but…

Yet, the pursuit continues. Some of us, like myself, persist in collecting, examining and hunting them.

I am an Italian man with an appreciation for beauty (and luxury).

While I began my career in the fashion, dealing mainly with precious textiles from all over the world, the allure of gemstones gradually revealed my true calling.

Blessed with two jeweler uncles in Italy, I pursued gemological studies in Bangkok and Hong Kong. However, as the limitation of even esteemed gem laboratories suggest, the true path to knowledge comes through direct exploration: Sri Lanka, Brazil, Colombia, Madagascar, India, Tajikistan and beyond were my usual destinations.

Tough years, full of almost fairy-tale encounters and experiences.

Knowing an Islam-Sufi master in Jaipur-India that tell you to “dont be greedy and when you sell, accept just a small profit that permit you to live in peace”. But then discovering that his nephew, an emerald merchant, hasn’t paid his suppliers in Zambia for two years.

Myanmar, where young gem dealers wield powerful torches as though they were gun. Those guys need them to check the translucency and distinguish between red garnet and red spinel; when you, instead, with a 1$ magnet have solved the issue faster. A garnet has iron inside, a spinel does not.

Mr X, a New Yorker, who permanently reserves a room at the Bangkok Mandarin Hotel. He faces no financial struggles as he continues inexorably to sell one after the other the fabulous precious stones that his pioneer father had collected in the ’70s when Bangkok was still the far west of gems.

In Brazil, where the real jackpot is not to get a Paraiba tourmaline but a Tatù aquamarine.

I have a myriad of these stories.

What I truly like is to show the gemstones that I find out around the world and share with you opinions, feedbacks, knowledge, experiences.

Of course, I aim to sell as well, but if you have read me this far, you know as me that gemstones are, above all, a secure investment.

Whether you choose to retain them, resell them for profit, or to transform into exquisite precious jewels with significant returns is up to you.

A deep passion. The colors. The gemstones.
